El Gaia: Commoditizing Carbon, Financing Conservation & Sustainable Development
“The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.”
–African Proverb
Founded by a group of socially conscious entrepreneurs, El Gaia™ has developed one of the first-ever commercially viable solutions to prevent rainforest destruction by presenting developing countries with economic incentives to preserve their forests.
El Gaia enables provinces and countries to finance conservation efforts and sustainable development through developing, commoditizing and marketing their rainforest carbon assets. These carbon dioxide offsets are purchased by governments, corporations or individuals looking to reduce their carbon footprint. As a result, the forces driving tropical deforestation can be significantly reduced and often completely eliminated.
El Gaia’s forest carbon projects include three principal areas of activity: Avoided Deforestation, Reforestation of Native Species, and New Planting.
