About El Gaia

"Evolution is a tightly coupled dance, with life and the material environment as partners. From the dance emerges the entity Gaia."

-James Lovelock, Founder of Gaia Theory

Gaia, meaning “land” in ancient Greek, was the mythological Greek goddess personifying the Earth.

Modern day Gaia Theory is an ecological hypothesis attributed to UK chemist James Lovelock which states that the earth’s physical environment and living beings have evolved together and exist as a single living system. The theory suggests that humans must learn to respect Gaia by reducing their impact on the Earth’s natural self-regulating homeostasis.

With this spirit in mind, El Gaia was founded by a diverse team of dynamic, socially-minded entrepreneurs. Our global team includes scientists, economists, lawyers, engineers and business experts with many years of experience in emissions trading, climate change policy and sustainable development.

We maintain a close-knit network of technical, legal, and financial partners located in virtually every major geographic location.

Local and national governments of developing countries we have approached have been extremely receptive to our tenders. They understand that private companies can often achieve what local governments cannot due to issues of bureaucracy and accumulated experience. Our business model of funding social sustainable development initiatives through the monetization of a region’s forest carbon assets currently has no direct competition.
